Janice L. Mayer is a Certified Fund Raising Executive. Prior to joining the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute, for five years she was the Executive Director of the nonprofit Santa Fe Desert Chorale; a fully professional choral ensemble based in New Mexico. During her tenure, earned and unearned revenue grew significantly. In creating SFDC’s Community Engagement programming, she provided arts access to those who would not have an opportunity to participate in music otherwise. She founded the weekly “Hearts in Harmony” choral sing which creates community at the Interfaith Community Shelter and is a model of cross-sector funding. Ms. Mayer also served as Executive Director of the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico.
Before relocating to New Mexico, the Massachusetts native served in a number of leadership positions in the nonprofit sector, including as Associate Director of Classical Action: Performing Arts Against AIDS, a nonprofit that draws upon the talents, resources, and generosity of the performing arts community to raise funds for AIDS Service Organizations across the United States. In addition to posts at the New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera, she was a Vice President at Columbia Artists Management, Inc. and founded Janice Mayer & Associates, an international artist management firm which she directed for eleven years. Consulting clients have included The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Copyright Society of the United States, The Harlem School of the Arts, Caminos del Inka, Inc. and Celebrate the Beat, a Colorado-based Associate of the National Dance Institute, among others. She has served on numerous grant panels at the federal, state, and local levels, including the National Endowment for the Arts.
Janice L. Mayer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and History from Connecticut College and Master of Public Administration degree from New York University, where she also taught as adjunct faculty.
In her leisure time, she enjoys attending performing arts performances and watching the Tennis Channel – her guilty pleasure – with her sidekick Molly, a six-year old ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
