Farm to Canvas

Farm to Canvas

Friend of the Institute, Liz Bridley of Plants & Prints, has a fun, engaging partnership with Santa Fe Art Tours called Farm to Canvas, an innovative walking tour that encourages a fresh look at the connection between art and food.

Inspired by her printmaking background and interest in art ecology, Brindley developed an interactive tour that invites participants to consider art through an ecological lens. During visits to the Railyard art galleries and the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market, Brindley invites the group to take a closer look at art and veggies to discover links between the natural and human-made worlds. The experience culminates with a hands-on workshop in which participants create prints with local produce.

“The Farm to Canvas tour is not just about art and food,” reveals Brindley. “It’s about activism and creating shared experiences for collective conversation about the interconnection of humans and the natural environment. I hope these tours strengthen observational and hands-on skills for an increased awareness to protect the land and food systems that are key for sustainable communities.”

“I’m thrilled to have Liz on board to provide this experience,” says Ritchel. “She’s a wonderful educator who skillfully weaves together mindfulness, making, and the farm-to-table mentality in a way that’s accessible to all.”

Farm to Canvas

After visiting Railyard galleries and the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market, you will work with Liz and create an original artwork of your own design. Each tour will end at form & concept, where Liz will guide you through the process of making your own print with local produce gathered from the Market. No prior printmaking experience is necessary – this workshop is suitable for experts and beginners alike.
