New Mexico Farmers Marketing Association has an exciting update about Double Up Food Bucks, the incentive program that provides recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps) with a dollar-for-dollar match to buy more fresh, New Mexico-grown fruits and vegetables.

So far this year, almost $230,000 of Double Up Food Bucks money has been redeemed by farmers across the state. This is a significant increase over last year’s $171,000 redemption for the entire year!

This money goes directly into the pockets of New Mexico’s small farmers, and reflects the amount of healthy, nutritious, fresh produce that has made its ways into the kitchens of the state’s food insecure. And this amount will grow as fall sales are counted.
