Celebrate Local Food / Invest in People, Land, & Culture

WHY does the Institute host Fall Fiesta?

The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute is the sister non-profit to the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market, founded with the intention of creating the Market Pavilion – the permanent year-round home for the Market. We help sustain a profitable, locally-based agricultural community by advocating for farmers, ranchers, and other land-based producers; providing equitable access to fresh, local food; and owning and managing the Market Pavilion.

Microloans

Extend the growing season, contribute to sustainable farming practices, and positively impact the local economy by supporting the economic growth of local agricultural producers with low-interest loans.
$734,000 – The total amount loaned via 194 loans since 2008

Training & Professional Development

Empower farmers, help grow their skills-sets, strengthen connections, increase production, and reduce waste through in-house and collaborative trainings and scholarships to conferences and other training opportunities.
“The hands-on experience was the highlight of the class.” – Conlan Jones, Sage Coyote Farm

Double Up Food Bucks

Customers using SNAP food assistance can double the amount they spend at Market, which improves the nutrition and health of low-income members of our community.
$1,000,000+ = DUFB sales at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market since 2010

Fresh Rx

Partnering doctors “prescribe” four $25 vouchers to the Market, increasing patients’ access to fresh food, strengthening doctor-patient connections, and changing patients eating habits and motivations to eat healthier, which all leads to long-term health improvements.
22% of Santa Fe adults eat 5+ fruits/veggies per day

Local Food for Local Kids

Youth from area schools and out-of-school programs attend field-trips to the Tuesday Railyard Market, meeting farmers, learning where their food comes from, and trying new foods.
393 = Youth from 12 groups in 2018

Farmers’ Market Support

51 years in Santa Fe, with 11 of those in the Railyard, the Market connects community and farmers through commerce. The Institute supports that mission by owning and managing the Market Pavilion, providing admin and financial support, and staffing the Info Booth.
55% of the Institute budget is devoted to Market support ($447,000 in direct & indirect support)
