This package includes one night’s lodging in a Townsmen-class room, a premium bath for two people for 50 minutes, Shiatsu Massage for two people for 50 minutes each, and $100 to enjoy a meal at Izanami.
The tradition of bathing in hot water goes back millennia due to the abundance of thermal waters in Japan. The Japanese learned early on about the powerful healing and release gained by sitting in hot water surrounded by the beauty of nature. Ten Thousand Waves has taken this model and transplanted it to New Mexico, where nature looks very different but is no less beautiful. They offer a unique “Japanese-adobe” esthetic, combining the traditional with state-of-the-art technology. Click here for details on all of their Premium tubs.
Each of their lodging rooms is unique, and completes the sense of removal from the real world. As in Japan, wearing yukata (casual kimono) around the property and to the restaurant is part of the experience. Click here to view details on all of their Townsmen rooms.
Their signature treatment, the shiatsu massage, uses rhythmic pressure to move muscles and connective tissue to disperse tension and pain. It improves energy, blood flow, and the functions of every organ in the body. The 50-minute treatment is a specific, full-body sequence (kata) designed to unlock areas of tension. Ten Thousand Waves is one of the only spas in the US to offer shiatsu as it is done in Japan. Click here to learn more about shiatsu massage.
Izanami is an izakaya serving upscale Japanese bar food. Small plates meant for sharing, creatively prepared locally-sourced meat and produce with an emphasis on seasonality, all accompanied by unique libations. Sip on artisanal microbrew cold sake, green teas from shizuoka, locally roasted coffee drinks, ten different Japanese craft beers, or any of their house-made spritzers.
