Discover why life in the subtropical desert of northern India, despite being thousands of miles away, has the same resilience and struggles as does parts of New Mexico. A farm and culinary adventure through ancient cities, heritage residences, and remote villages immerses you in the culture, spices, and bold flavors of northern India’s Rajasthan. The result is a deeper and more profound relationship with local and sustainable practices of small farms where food is part of spiritual practice.
Visit organic farms and meet farm owners and farm hands while getting hands-on observation of local farm practices. Stay at a working farm at Laksh and lean about their women’s co-operative. Explore several produce and spice markets, shop for meal ingredients and participate in hands-on cooking demonstrations with local experts and learn about rose farming and rose oil production in Pushkar. Participate in the joyful and colorful Hindu festival, Holi, with locals, and discover ancient sites and forts.
